In this multi-day, interactive performance, TAP’s actor-teachers help middle and high school students devise solutions to the everyday problems they face. Over the course of the program, students learn concrete conflict resolution skills, focusing on articulating their feelings, controlling anger, and identifying personal goals. Students are challenged to safely and creatively explore answers to these fundamental questions: What do I want, and how do the choices I make bring me closer to—or further from—that goal?
In this program, participating youth engage with fictional characters who are experiencing challenges and dilemmas similar to their own. Through role-playing, games, and drama, students guide the fictional characters to make different choices, leading them closer to getting what they want. TAP’s actor-teachers then challenge the students to apply these same ideas to their own lives, examining how making different choices can lead to alternative outcomes. Alternative Solutions is a fun, creative way to help middle and high school youth develop communication skills, self-confidence, and self-reflection.
